Students move through the Elementary Education program in five phases
Pre Level I consists of all the prerequisite courses needed for acceptance into the Elementary
Education major. During this phase, students are designated as Pre-Elementary Education
majors and take all of the Towson University Core Curriculum courses and the Elementary
Education prerequisite courses.
Level I is the first semester of the Elementary Education program. Students begin field placement
experiences focused on literacy and mathematics.
Level II is the second semester of the Elementary Education program. Students take courses
focused on literacy and science instruction and attend field placements.
Level III is the third semester of the Elementary Education program and the beginning of a
year-long internship in one or more professional development schools. Interns take
courses a variety of advanced courses and attend field placements on a part-time basis.
Level IV is the final semester of the Elementary Education program. Interns return to the
professional development school(s) where they completed their Level 3 internships
and complete full time student internships.
